What is anemia ?

Anemia is a condition where the body lacks enough healthy red blood cells to carry adequate oxygen to tissues.

Common symptoms include fatigue, weakness, pale skin, shortness of breath, dizziness, and cold hands and feet.

Anemia symptoms

Causes of anemia

Causes include blood loss, decreased or faulty red blood cell production, and destruction of red blood cells.

types of anemia

Major types include iron-deficiency anemia, vitamin deficiency anemia, aplastic anemia, hemolytic anemia, and sickle cell anemia.

This is the most common type, caused by a lack of iron, which is necessary for red blood cell production.

Iron-Deficiency Anemia

Vitamin Deficiency Anemia

Caused by a deficiency in vitamins B12 and folate, which are essential for red blood cell production.

Aplastic Anemia

Aplastic anemia is a rare but serious blood disorder. It happens when something damages your bone marrow so it can't make new blood cells and platelets.

Hemolytic Anemia

Hemolytic anemia is a blood disorder that makes your red blood cells break down or die faster than your body can replace them with new blood cells.

Sickle Cell Anemia

A hereditary form of anemia where red blood cells are sickle-shaped, leading to blockages in blood flow.

Anemia Complications

Untreated anemia can lead to severe fatigue, heart problems, and complications during pregnancy.
