Pernicious anemia causes

Pernicious anemia causes

The body's inability to produce intrinsic factor, a protein necessary for vitamin B12 absorption.

Pernicious anemia symptoms

fatigue, weakness, shortness of breath, dizziness, pale or jaundice skin, and heart palpitations.

Neurological Symptoms

Numbness or tingling in the hands and feet, balance problems, memory loss, and confusion.

Glossitis

Glossitis is a nonspecific oral manifestation of vitamin B deficiency, which is the cause of pernicious anemia.

Methylmalonic Acid Test

Elevated levels of MMA in the blood or urine can also indicate vitamin B12 deficiency.

Schilling Test

The Schilling test is a test that measures the absorption of vitamin B12 in the body and can help diagnose pernicious anemia

 Bone Marrow Examination

A bone marrow exam can help diagnose pernicious anemia by looking for enlarged bone marrow cells.

Pernicious anemia is primarily treated with vitamin B12 injections, because the condition slows the body's ability to absorb B12 from food.
